What this site is
Buying pool filter sand looks easy until you need to know how many bags, whether glass is worth it, or why sand keeps showing up on the pool floor. Charts online disagree, and most of them do not say where their numbers came from. We built the reference we wanted: figures with sources, drawings of what happens inside the tank, and plain steps for the jobs owners actually do.
How we choose
We have not tested these products ourselves. Nothing on this site claims hands-on testing, lab results or scores of our own. Instead:
- Sand amounts come from filter makers first. Where we found a maker manual or spec sheet, such as Hayward’s S200 manual, Pentair’s Triton II brochure and Intex product specs, we use it and mark it model-specific. Where we only found retailer charts, we say so and tell you to check your label.
- Media claims are labeled as claims. When a zeolite or glass seller says their media filters finer or lasts longer, we say the seller says so.
- Conflicts are shown, not hidden. When two sources disagree, such as 125 or 150 lb for one Hayward model, we show both.
- We recommend types, then show current listings. Shop buttons are searches for the right kind of media or part, not a single product we vouch for.
- No scores, no star ratings, no prices. Prices change daily and we have no test data to score with.
- Safety first. Silica dust is a real hazard, so every sand-handling page says to wear a mask, with OSHA’s guidance linked.
How the site earns
Some links go to Amazon with our affiliate tag. If you buy, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That never decides what we recommend. Details are on the affiliate disclosure page.
Corrections
Product lines and listings change. We review pages regularly and each page shows when it was last reviewed.
